The journey of our qamaria
A distinct feature of Yemeni architecture, the qamaria windows are placed above normal windows, allowing sun and moon light to enter the home at all times of the day. The name qamaria comes from the Arabic word for moon “qamar”. Not only adding a beautiful twist of colored geometric patterns to traditional houses, the qamaria light also filters sun and moon light so it sparks colorful light streams in traditional homes.
An ancient tradition, with qamarias produced for hundreds of years, the handcraft has nonetheless come under pressure, as new architectural styles in Yemen do not feature them. Our qamaria light décor not only offers a unique source of light, they also help to keep an ancient handcraft tradition alive.
Qamaria
Our qamaria lights are a modern interpretation of the traditional Yemeni qamaria windows. Lighted by either candles or electric lights, the colorful stained glass creates a beautiful source of light anywhere in your home.
The qamarias are made of stained glass and gypsum and comes in different designs, sizes and shapes based on request.
